Comment: The diagram shown in figure 38 shows two chime units connected for an upstairs/downstairs chime configuration. The symbol that is given as a chime unit in the module has the front and back solenoid coils connected to a common T terminal. I feel that there should be two separate chime unit symbols complete with the 1, 2 and T terminals shown on the diagram. This would keep the chime units intact as they would need to be when installed. I would even suggest a dashed line around each chime unit to identify which one is the upstairs unit and which is the downstairs unit.

Comment: Figure 31 shows the fire alarm system in the alarm state, but there is no identification that this is the case. I feel a notation should be added to explain that this is how systems are drawn so that it doesn't confuse students who ask about the function of the diodes. It is confusing to many that FA systems are drawn this way, so the earlier we can clarify this for the students the better.

I have put more thought into an issue I have regarding this question. "Non-steel" type EMT is not defined in the CEC or the module. I believe the purpose of the question is to highlight Rule 12-402 2) which indicates only steel type EMT can be installed in concrete or masonry contacting the earth. I believe a multiple-choice question may serve this purpose better. Question 7. Of the following areas, where is aluminum EMT (electrical metallic tubing) not permitted to be used? a) wet locations b) in non-combustible buildings c) on combustible buildings d) in concrete contacting the earth (this would be the correct answer) OR Question 7. When installing raceways in concrete, what type of EMT (electrical metallic tubing) is not permitted to be used? a) stainless steel type EMT b) galvanized steel type EMT c) aluminum type EMT (this would be the correct answer) d) none of the above Would it also be a good idea to list the available types of EMT in the module material?

This has been a real issue for students as many get to fourth period and struggle with the application of section 4 of the CEC because they were taugh the wrong way. This section (Objective 3) needs an almost total re write.

Comment: This section refers to dwelling units where a fire alarm system is not installed. Smoke detectors are not used where a CPU isn't installed. The students should be made aware that the term smoke detector is totally different then the term smoke alarm. Page 20 - Connection-Paragraph 2: "When one detector goes into...." should read " when one smoke alarm goes into..." Page 28 - Questions 15 and 16: change "detectors" to "smoke alarms" All questions should specify whether a fire alarm system has been installed or not, or the type of dwelling unit. Detached homes and row housing are treated differently than dwelling units in an apartment building requiring a fire alarm system. Page25, figure 30 - the polarity needs to be reversed on the control panel. When an electrician connects wiring to the panel, the red wire connects to the positive terminal and the black wire to the negative. The panel does the polarity reversal, NOT the installer. Fire alarm signal circuits are drawn in the "ALARM" MODE which is different than control circuits. Page 26 - Class B Signal Circuit - Due to the previous explanation regarding polarity making the diagram appear as if it is in alarm, the explanation of the panel doing the polarity reversal needs to be clarified. Keep in mind we are dealing with first year students who know nothing about fire alarm systems. Page 29 - Question 22 - Sentence 3 should read" The new smoke alarms to be installed do not...."

This whole sentence should be rewritten but the major errors include using the word demand and the word size.
